| O.P. and Mabel bought the store in 1930...it was one of four small stores attached to one another....and as time moved on...in 1940, O.P. bought the hardware store next to his grocery store....so he sold groceries, dry goods and hardware when we bought the store from them in 1963......in 1973 we bought the 3rd building that was attached (a pool hall...where the farmers went to kibitz and drink beer...called "Fat's Place")....we incorporated that into our store. |
| I don't know who the other pickup belonged too... Standing in front of the store: left to right: Omer and Mabel Adkinson, Ruth Wright, Ruthie and Rollie (with his butcher apron on) Adkinson (I was expecting Janna in January..smile)...and sitting in front on the sidewalk are Annette and Jennifer | |
| We had just moved to Crowley in January 1963 from Santa Ana, California...and bought the store from Rollie's parents (Omer and Mabel)....my father took this picture... You can see the "4" stores in this picture....the one on the left is a pool hall (Mexican) and then the "Harness & Saddles" was part of Adkinson's Market..it was the hardware and dry good side....then the grocery store...and then Fat's Place, another pool hall....and that is downtown Crowley, Colorado USA...haha....there was not much more than that in the town of 200....county of 3000... The car to the left was our first car a Ford Fairlane 1958.....and the grey pickup was Rollie's also...1939 Ford... | ![]() |
